Past

When God created man and declared them to be his greatest achievement there were certainly angels whom disagreed. Stories of these angels echo through time. Yet, there were many more whom marveled at man. They could see the wonders that were the human race, and understand in a sense why God believed them to be his greatest creation. Aedrakyri was one such angel. This was not to say he thought man to be perfect. Yet, it was these flaws which made man more beautiful to him. It was not surprising when God asked angels to watch over man while they were on earth that Aedrakyri were among those whom volunteered. God told those whom taken up the task as watcher over man that they were there to merely observe, and as such they were not to interfere within the affairs of man unless it was absolutely necessary.Obeying these orders were easy at first, but the longer Aedrakyri and the other volunteers spent watching over man the deeper their love for them grew until it became quite impossible for them to ignore man’s prayers.

Surely God had not placed man upon the earth just to have them scream to the heaven in some vain hope that someone was listening. God would want his greatest creation to know just how loved they were, and it was for these reasons they answered man’s prayers. They did so out of the perceptions of man—believing that by doing so they were still holding fast to God’s command as well as allowing man to know the love they were certain their creator had for them. However, man eventually discovered whom had been answering their prayers. Each angel were found out in different ways. For Aedrakyri it came when he healed a fatally sick child—a little girl of only eight whose illness he believed would keep her from seeing him even if he stood within the room with her as any other human might. It did not. She took one look at him and let out a scream much louder than he thought she was capable of, and before he could make himself invisible others rush into the tent. They regarded him with a look of uncertainty, but it was clear from their expressions they knew he wasn’t human.

What they thought he was Aedrakyri didn’t know at the moment. At the time, he thought maybe they believed he was an agent of death coming to collect the child’s soul. It certainly seemed that way from the way the girl’s parents sobbed and pleaded with him to spare their child, but none attempted to intervene with his decision in a physical way. They were waiting for his decision and would accept whichever one he made. He told them not to worry he did not come to take their child’s soul and healed her. As soon as he did so everyone within the tent fell upon their hands and knees before him in gratitude, or so he thought. It didn’t take him long to realize they bowed before him in such a many as an act of devotion more than gratitude, and would have done the same display even if he had decided to take the child’s soul. It didn’t take him long to realize they worshiped him, and the other angels whom were assigned as watchers over man were coming to the same conclusion.

Some of the angels knowing they were going down a path God did not want returned to heaven, but Aedrakyri and many others remained. They might not have seen the dangers those whom had went back to heaven had. Their love for man might have made them believe the risks were worth it. They might have decided they would only return to heaven under the direct order of God. There might have been countless other reasons. For Aedrakyri it was definitely the fondness he had for man--especially that little girl whom he had healed. She had taken to finding him and speaking with him. It was through these encounters that he ended up growing closer to her and in turn her people. The idea of leaving them were just unbearable, and he knew that even if God came down and demanded he returned to heaven that he would not. He was not the only watcher whom felt the same way.

God might have been content to allow them to remain upon the earth if it wasn't for the fact that man were worshiping them as they should be him. This was not something God could have. He was the only being being whom his children should hold in their hearts in such a manner. He demanded that Aedrakyri and the other watchers return to heaven. He believed their removal would benefit both angel and man. He believed allowing angels watch man for an indefinite amount of time had been a foolish decision on his part. Of course, they would come to love humans with their entire being. How could they not? And of course due to this love they would no longer be able to stand idly by while their charges suffer--even if intervening directly went against orders. He should had it so periodically those angels watching over man returned to heaven and other angels took their place. It would give them time to recharge and keep them from growing too attached to those they were watching over.

As for man, God believed the removal of their watchers would point them to the right direction on whom should be receiving their praise and devotion. They would come to realize that he was the only being worthy of their worship, and his plan might have worked if it wasn't for the fact that Aedrakyri and the other watchers refused. They saw no reason to soothe his bruised ego. If he had wanted man to worship only him than perhaps he should have been the one to answer their prayers. This was not something that God was pleased to hear. It was clear to him that his angels truly needed to be removed from their position of watcher and brought back to heaven to heal. However, his insistence did nothing to encourage Aedrakyri and the other watchers to do as he commanded. God became outraged and told them that if they didn't do as he said that he would cast them out of heaven, and they would become fallen angels. He thought that without any access to his powers that they would be unable to answer man's prayer, and that in turn would convince man that these angels were not the gods they believed them to be.

More than that, he believed that it would never come to that. The watchers would decided to do as he commanded and return to heaven. They would decided that being cast from his light was a fate they did not wish to endure, but he misread them or perhaps he forgotten that some of his angels are willing to be condemn to the dark for something they believe. Aedrakyri and the other watchers refused. God had no choice but to carry through with his threat. Things, however, did not go how God anticipated. There is power in belief--more power than one might realize. Man believed they were gods thus they became gods. God's declaring them fallen angels had no affect upon their powers. In fact, it made them realize what they had become. They might have suspected it before but now they knew for certain. It became clear to God that if he wished for man to worship only him that he would have to show them that he was the only one worthy of such devotions.

However, this was easier said than done. Try as he might, God couldn't convince man that Aedrakyri and the other watchers weren't gods. In fact, the harder he tried the more man saw Aedrakyri and the others as gods. It became clear that the only thing God could do was sit back and wait for man to come to the truth, and eventually they did. The passage of time allowed man to turn away from the idea of multiple gods to the belief that there was only one, and it was this concept that there were only one deity that allowed them to rediscover God. Many including God believed that once man stopped worshiping Aedrakyri and the others that they would revert back to being mere fallen angels, but it became clear that it wasn't just man's belief that made them gods but theirs as well. It might be that even if they didn't believe they were gods that man's belief that they were had changed them too much for them to go back to what they had been before. In short, man's lack of belief had no impact upon their godhoods.

The next question was what they were going to do since they no longer held the same position within man's heart as they once did. Some simply decided to wander the earth. Others came to the conclusion that not every human were ready to turn their back on those whom they had worshiped for the longest time. They could maintain their godly position through religious orders whom would be considered pagan by the three major religions and all their branches whom had devoted themselves completely to the belief that there was only one god. Then there were those like Aedrakyri whom were not content with being mere wonders or deity of some pagan religious sect. They wished for everything to go back to the way it was before man discovered God. Each had their own reasons for wanting such a thing. For Aedrakyri it boiled down to a simple fact—-God did not love man as he did. It was he whom answered their prayers for time beyond counting. He walked among them, shared in their grief and joy.

He came to know them in ways that God never would or could. He knows that God doesn’t truly care for them. He only wants man’s complete devotion only because that would mean they wouldn’t be giving it to someone else. He dreaded to think what would happen if God managed to convince every human to sing only his praise—yet, think it, he did. It was constantly on his mind. He knew that he could not allow such a world to come to pass and so he declared war upon God. This war raged for many years, and while Aedrakyri’s forces proved quite a challenge for God’s it was not enough. Eventually Aedrakyri was defeated. Through, both he and God knew this was only a temporary set back. He would one day rise again to try to finish what he started and could very well succeed. However, God could not kill Aedrakyri. He was outside his dominion.

This, however, didn’t mean that God was powerless in preventing Aedrakyri from trying again. He could banish him into another realm and make it near impossible to release him from this realm thus keeping Aedrakyri from his mission of usurping God. The realm God decided to banish Aedrakyri within was the realm of dreams. It is the place that one’s soul travels to when they sleep, and is as filled with denizens just as the earth and other realms are filled with people. It is these subjects of the dreamworld whom shape the dreams of those non-native whom find their way into their domain. They do not do so out of the act of kindness, but rather out of a desire to claim those dreamers whom wonder into their territories as their own. When a person goes to sleep they can only stay away from their body for so long before they lose their connection to their body and it dies. If their body perish while within the realm of dreams and they do not realize that is where they are at they become the property of whichever denizen of the dreamworld whose territory they had been in—even if they later come to realize the truth.

Most, however, do not. They come to believe they were always citizens of whatever territory they found themselves trapped within. Yet, those whom come do realize what had happened are granted limited powers—just not enough that they can break free from their master’s control and influence. They, however, are free to travel anywhere within the dream realm and influence the dreams of those dreamers not yet disconnected from their bodies. Many denizens of the dreamworld saw the benefit of possessing such a soul because any soul these aware ones managed to ensnare becomes theirs. It quickly became clear why God had chosen this place for his banishment. He had hoped that since Aedrakyri was not a natural denizens of the dreamworld that he would find himself subjugated under a native and thus would find it impossible to interact outside the dream realm. There would be no need to take extra measures to ensure Aedrakyri did not escape from his prison, but he took these precautions anyways.

It was a good thing he did for Aedrakyri was very resourceful. He refused to submit and bow anyone. He had been a god for too long to allow himself to be anything less. He decided to carve his own kingdom within the dreamworld, and in some way he saw this as a chance to remove God’s influences over those whom he was not worthy of having. It was not an easy task for the natives had no desire of allowing someone not born of their realm to possess any real power, but he quickly showed them how little say they had over him. He killed those whom were too vocal in their protest and took their territories for his own. This shocked those within the dreamworld. Not the killing. Such a thing was common. Whenever a denizens of the dreamworld—whether they are born or ensnared—dies they are just reborn a little while later as if nothing had happened. It was the claiming of their territories that shook them to the core. They had thought such a thing impossible. They had thought the only way to increase ones territory and influence within the dreamworld was through the act of claiming the souls of dreamers.

Once their astonishment wore off, others tried to increase their territories in the same manner, but found themselves incapable of doing such a thing. They couldn’t figure out why. The fact that Aedrakyri could do it proved that it could be done. They eventually came to the conclusion that since he had not been born within the dreamworld nor had he ever found himself subjugated by anyone whom had been born within the dream realm he was not restricted by its laws. Some saw this to mean he was a true god. Others just he is suppose to be the supreme ruler of the dreamworld. Many swore fealty to him, but there were a few whom refused. They believe with time and effort that they can too can do what he had done. He allows those whom have sworn fealty to him to maintain their territories, and run it as they always have. Those whom have not he completely absorbs their territories into his, but only if they attack him first. If they don't he leaves them alone.

Present

Time has passed since Aedrakyri has first been imprisoned within the dreamworld. He is no closer to figuring out how to break out, but he has found ways to interact with worlds outside the dreamworld. This usually involves moving around like a ghost thus not many people can actually see him. However, he does encounter a few people whom can see him. One ended up being a young woman whom he ended up falling in love with. She reminded him so much of that little girl he had saved all those ages ago when he had still been just an angel. They would spend a lot of time together, and she would come to visit him within his kingdom within the dreamworld. She was one of those humans whom were completely aware when she is asleep and her soul is left to wander about the dream realm. Than one day she stopped showing up. He didn't know why. He thought that perhaps something happened to her. She was human after all and they were fragile beings compared to others.

However, at the back of his mind was a fear she chosen to stop seeing him because she thought he was a monster. This was a fear that always existed within the back of his mind. It comes from his childhood where his parents believed that he was a monster due to his unique abilities. This might have been part of his motivation for becoming one of the watchers, and why he refused to become a simple wander or the deity of a pagan religious sect. He wanted to show his parents that he wasn't a monster as well as having a desire to shape the world so no one would feel like they were one simply because they were different. It seemed that his time within the dream realm has only made this fear more pronounced and when his human stopped seeing him he decided that perhaps he was a monster. He became something of a reclusive.

This, however, didn't stop people from wandering into his kingdom. and eventually a girl by the name of Amelia found her way into his kingdom. She like his other human is aware while she wanders about the dream world. He became fond of her, but he refuse to allow himself to get too close to her for the fear that she will one day decide he isn't worthy of her affections. However, he has come to love her more than he cares to admit. His Amelia is probably very aware of this fact because he will become extremely upset if she is even a little late for her visits.
